I say you don’t have to look much further than the recent so-called “global financial meltdown” to bear witness to the complete psychopathy of a handful of people who control the vast majority of money — but not just actual, physical cash (of which a potentially infinite amount can simply be printed) but the ideas we buy into in terms of what money will buy and what has value. The irony is that for all the sacrifice we make to amass possessions it’s really turned out to be a huge waste of time.
For me: as hard as I try to think that a house, new clothes, a lavish vacation, etc. will “make me happy” I just can’t let go of the idea that it’s all bullshit, that I’m trying to live out some extended credit card commercial.
