Steve Jobs cried a lot. This is one of the salient facts about his subject that Isaacson reveals, and it is salient not because it shows Jobs’s emotional depth, but because it is an example of his stunted character. Steve Jobs cried when he didn’t get his own way. He was a bully, a dissembler, a cheapskate, a deadbeat dad, a manipulator, and sometimes he was very nice.
Despite the labels and criticism, Steve Jobs helped to make the world much more interesting. But he was just a man, and even with his uncanny ability to predict what people wanted with “one more thing” he was as susceptible as all of us to death of the body. But, as I mentioned in my last post, making something that can influence the course of humanity long after your body is gone is the true definition of success..
I only hope that, one day, I can do something that reverberates after i’m dead.
